Even More LEGO City 2018 Official Images Released!

After the first wave of reveals of the latest LEGO City sets slated to be released in 2018, now comes another series of releases for the LEGO City theme. Dutch LEGO fan site, Bouwsteentjes, has uploaded several official images of 9 upcoming LEGO sets which were never before hinted nor teased. These latest LEGO City 2018 offerings seem to focus more on Police, Vehicles, and Mining subthemes and feature relatively new designs and aesthetics. I particularly like the yellow and red colors of the Mining sets, which kind of reminds me of the LEGO Town sets many years ago.

Let’s check out these images and let me know what you think of these upcoming LEGO City 2018 sets.

LEGO Toys R Us Bricktober 2017 Minifigures Have Started Appearing in TRU Stores in the US.

Though they have appeared earlier in some parts of the globe a few weeks ago, it seems that several Toys R Us stores in the US have already begun this year’s LEGO Bricktober promotions. With four, undoubtedly impressive sets to collect throughout the month of October, this year’s LEGO TRU Bricktober Minifigures includes a colorful collection of minifigures hailing from the LEGO Batman Movie, Ninjago, City Jungle Exploration, and Collectible Minifigures series.

As mentioned by The Brick Fan, some Toys R Us branches in the US have already started the said promotions. These exclusive minifigs are given for free, for every minimum single-receipt purchase of LEGO products worth $50 and above. Different TRU stores in various geographical regions have observed slightly different release dates throughout their Bricktober promotional, and in the US the following are the scheduled release dates to be followed.

October 1 to 7 – LEGO Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu (5004938)

5004938 1

October 8 to 14 – LEGO Batman Movie (5004939)

5004939 1

October 15 to 21 – LEGO City Jungle Exploration (5004940)

5004940 1

October 22 to 28 – LEGO Collectible Minifigures (5004941)

5004941 1

It seems that the in-store announcements and activities came in first, and we should expect some updates from TRU’s official website any time soon. Similarly, Toys R Us has lined up a pretty interesting series of Bricktober weekend in-store events, with a handful of freebies up for grabs. Check TRU’s website for more details.

Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 Is Now In Full Swing!

Toy Fair season is definitely upon us, with the London Toy Fair just being recently concluded, we now move on to the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 – the next leg of international toy fairs that give us a glimpse of things to come especially in the world of LEGO bricks.

The Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 in Germany, dubbed as the largest toy fair in the world, has now opened its doors to all retailers and guests, and covering the action right there at the LEGO booth are the ever-reliable teams of Promobricks and Zusammengebaut. Credit goes to their kind efforts in sharing these images with the world.

Suffice it to say, LEGO did a good job of having its active themes covered on the opening day of the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017, so let’s take a while to break down what was revealed so far during the past hours. We’ll try to comment on these images as the opportunity arises, but in the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts on these sets. A huge thanks to Promobricks for sharing these images!

LEGO at Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017!

LEGO Technic

nuremberg toy fair 2017

This may come as a surprise for LEGO Technic fans. LEGO has revealed at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 a building guide that allows you to combine this year’s Technic sets particularly, 42057, 42061, and 42063, to come up with the iconic Technic chassis from 1977.

We know that LEGO has a sweet spot for the Technic theme since it is one of the longest lines of sets that it has ever came up with. If the inclusion of the 40th commemorative beam in its 2017 sets is already a very much welcomed token, then the presence of the commemorative building guide as revealed at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 (which will be made available for free during the second half of the year according to Zusammengebaut) is a great bonus.

The entire range of 2017 LEGO Architecture sets is also on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017, with the Guggenheim Museum (21035) and Arc De Triomphe (21036) making their first public debut.

LEGO Marvel and DC Comics Super Heroes

Though LEGO has not revealed any images yet, it’s great to know that The LEGO Group has finally confirmed its latest line of superhero sets dedicated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Comics Super Heroes. The box art that was on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 confirms that we’ll be seeing several sets all dedicated to the much-awaited films such as Spider-Man: Homecoming (sets 76082 & 76083), Thor: Ragnarok (sets 76084 & 76088), and DC’s Justice League (sets 76085, 76086, and 76087).

Also on display were the recently revealed LEGO Marvel Superheroes:

LEGO Speed Champions

The 2017 LEGO Speed Champions collection was also on display, less the McLaren Road Car (75880) that is yet to be revealed.

LEGO Juniors Cars 3

nuremberg toy fair 2017

There seems to be another previously reported ‘fake’ news that turned out to be true after all. Hot off the trail that the rumored LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Men Tell No Tales (71042) was eventually legit, the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 has revealed that LEGO indeed has its sights in coming up with a line of sets dedicated to the third comeback of Lightning McQueen in Disney Pixar’s Cars 3. These watermarked box arts were put on display bearing set numbers 10730, 10731, 10732, 10733, 10742, 10743, 10744, & 10745.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 17 and LEGO Ninjago Movie

We know that Series 17 of LEGO’s CMF is just around the corner. In fact, leaked images of some of its minifigs are already out there in the wild. However, LEGO has been particularly tight-lipped with its next line of cinematic CMFs, particularly on its next theatrical offering, The LEGO Ninjago Movie.

Though the box on display at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 was sort of the generic type, the number of minifigs (20 in this series) gives us a hint that LEGO intends to repeat its minifig offerings, the same as that from the LEGO Batman Movie. The picture also below somehow gives us an idea of how our teen ninjas will look in their first-ever cinematic debut.

Other LEGO Highlights at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017

Some of LEGO’s highlights at the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 also include a demonstration of its upcoming LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101) and the official launch of the social media platform for LEGO fans, the LEGO Life app.

Noticeably missing in action during day 1 of the Nuremberg Toy Fair are the recent LEGO Batman Movie summer sets, those from the LEGO Ninjago Movie, and from the LEGO Star Wars theme.

So what do you think brick fans? What other sets will LEGO reveal in the next few days? Drop us a note in the comments below or head over at our Facebook page and join in the conversation.

LEGO Unveils First Minifigure in a Wheelchair in LEGO City Fun in the Park (60134)

LEGO has just introduced more diversity in its set with the introduction of the LEGO City Fun in the Park 60134.

A few days ago, LEGO released what could be its first person-with-disability minifigure. It was spotted by Promobricks at the Nuremberg, Germany, and London toy fairs, photos of which were posted on their blog site and shared with the website.

The LEGO City Fun in the Park 60314 Set Adds A New Exciting Character and Accessory

The first-ever minifigure on a wheelchair is part of the newest set, LEGO City Fun in the Park (60134) City People Pack, and also includes an ice-cream vendor, cyclist, picnickers, and a host of other minifigs in a new park scene. The said PWD minifig depicts a young, cool guy donning a beanie and a hoodie together with his companion dog.

60134 Box1 in

LEGO City and Diversity

It caused quite a stir across social media because as we said, it’s a first for a LEGO – and a good one too. The sighting of this new minifigure is significant since the company has been bombarded recently with accusations for its lack of diversity, and stereotyping.

LEGO received a barrage of criticism from educators and activists, for releasing an elderly minifig with a wheelchair as part of the Duplo line which caters to toddlers and preschool-aged children. According to its critics, the introduction of such figures in a toy system intended for very young kids reinforces the stereotypical image of elderly people as unproductive members of the larger society. But this new LEGO City may seek to undo that.

LEGO City Fun in the Park 60134 Introduces Our First Wheel-Chair Riding Minifig

Now with the introduction of its first-ever, wheel-chair riding minifigures in LEGO City Fun in the Park (60134), The LEGO Group might receive its needed PR boost. #ToyLikeMe co-founder Rebecca Atkinson, who spearheaded a petition at Change.org, managed to gather 20,000 signatures which lobbied Lego to include people with disabilities minifigures in its sets.  This could be a second milestone about the issue of sensitivity and diversity among toy manufacturers, the first being with Mattel’s release of new body types for the world’s most famous doll, Barbie.

According to a written statement by Atkinson, “The whole issue came as a bit of a shock to me, because you can get tons of LEGO superhero figures, pretty much any kind you want. And there are disabled superheroes! But I looked it up. They do not have official LEGO Professor X figs or Barbara Gordon/Oracle figs. They don’t even have Stephen Hawking!” Though as the brick company claims, the LEGO system offers endless possibilities in coming up with figures that can be customized by any child to approximate his environment, it is the company’s official acknowledgment that activists were seeking.

60134 alt10

The #ToyLikeMe organizers took this as a very positive gesture, and joyfully wrote on their campaign page, “We’ve got genuine tears of joy right now … LEGO has just rocked our brick-built world!”

“It’s pretty momentous, even though it’s just a little toy. It’s about the message behind it, which is far, far bigger than a little one-inch-tall plastic guy.”, Atkinson said.

LEGO will begin to offer this unique minifig through their LEGO City Fun in the Park (60134) City People Pack beginning in July of this year. For now, check out this video from Promobricks regarding set 60134 as they spotted this during the Nuremberg Toy Fair.
