Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Results Reveals Two Future Sets!

In case you missed out on this reveal last month from the LEGO Ideas Review Team, the anticipation has finally ended as the results of the Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review are officially out.

LEGO Ideas fans are thrilled to see which of the 49 innovative fan-designed sets will soon be joining the LEGO Ideas theme. Let’s dive into the details of the upcoming sets that have captured the hearts and votes of the LEGO community.

Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review: Exciting New Sets Revealed!

Our Next Confirmed LEGO Ideas Sets

Throughout the duration of the Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage, two fan-designed LEGO Ideas sets have been confirmed to move forward into production, and one more is undergoing further review. Here’s a closer look at each of these exciting sets:

Minifigure Prize Machine by Rob Vangansewinkel (aka Goosestore)

second lego ideas 2023 review

Rob Vangansewinkel, known in the LEGO community as Goosestore, is the LEGO fan-designer behind the Minifigure Prize Machine, a set that brings a touch of arcade fun to LEGO Stores.

This Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review winner resembles a prize machine that you might find near the Build a Minifigure station in any LEGO Store. The design was so well-received by the LEGO Ideas team that it has inspired not one but two upcoming LEGO Ideas Fan Votes. These votes will decide on a new Classic Spaceman color and a new Castle faction emblem, adding an extra layer of excitement and customization to this already delightful set.

Western River Steamboat by Aaron Hall (aka CTDpower)

second lego ideas 2023 review

Aaron Hall, also known as CTDpower, has successfully brought his Western River Steamboat design to life. This detailed build draws inspiration from Hall’s personal experiences growing up along the Mississippi River. His background in architecture and home design, coupled with his time working on a riverboat, is evident in the intricate details of this Second LEGO Ideas 2023 review champ. The Western River Steamboat promises to be a nostalgic and visually stunning addition to the LEGO Ideas lineup.

The Luxo Jr. Lamp: Undergoing Further Review as a Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Qualifier

second lego ideas 2023 review

In addition to the two confirmed sets, there is one more design that has piqued the interest of the LEGO Ideas team but hasn’t yet met all the criteria needed to move forward as a Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review winner. The Disney Pixar’s Luxo Jr. Lamp, designed by T0BY1KENOBI25150.

The iconic lamp, known from Pixar’s opening sequences, has impressed the LEGO Ideas team enough to warrant a second look. An update on whether this charming design will become a full-fledged LEGO Ideas set is expected this summer.

What Happens Next?

With the confirmation of the Minifigure Prize Machine and the Western River Steamboat as this year’s Second LEGO Ideas 2023 Review winners, the LEGO Ideas designers will now collaborate with the fan designers to finalize these sets. This collaboration ensures that the final products not only stay true to the original vision but also meet LEGO’s high standards for quality and playability.

While the current images and details provide an exciting glimpse into what’s to come, it’s worth noting that the final designs may still undergo some changes. As we eagerly await the final versions of these confirmed sets, the excitement within the LEGO community continues to build.

Third LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Results Coming in this Summer!

The LEGO Ideas Review Team still has plenty on their plate as they now gear up for the next cycle of review for the Third LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage. Here’s Our Top Picks from Our LEGO Ideas 80s Building Contest Entries

The LEGO Ideas 80s ‘If We Could Turn Back Time’ building contest has sparked an explosion of creativity, drawing nearly 300 captivating entries during its Idea Intake phase.

Now that the Submission Phase is officially over, let’s delve into a retro-fueled world of LEGO nostalgia and see which among these hopefuls can become the next official LEGO Ideas set.

What’s the LEGO Ideas 80s Building Challenge All About?

The Challenge

The essence of the LEGO Ideas 80s building contest lies in its challenge to fan builders: craft designs for LEGO sets inspired by iconic IPs from the 1980s. It’s a journey back in time, a homage to the cultural touchstones that shaped an era.

The Stakes

Out of the myriad submissions, only five will step up to the next level through a fan vote scheduled for April 16, 2024. The stakes are high, with the chance to immortalize one’s creation as an official LEGO Ideas set.

Guidelines and Restrictions

While creativity knows no bounds, there are certain guardrails. The LEGO Ideas team explicitly stated that projects based on IPs already in LEGO sets, such as Indiana Jones, Tron, Back to the Future, and Seinfeld, won’t cut. It’s all about exploring fresh territories and unearthing hidden gems from the 80s.

For those intrigued by the challenge, a treasure trove of details and guidelines awaits on the LEGO Ideas challenge page. Dive in, explore, and perhaps, unleash your creative masterpiece.

LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review Results Pays Tribute to Jack Skellington

In case you missed it, the LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review Results were finally revealed last week, with the announcement of another Disney title getting the LEGO treatment.

The LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review Results Comes With 50+ Submissions

With a total of 51 submissions, it was another herculean task for the LEGO Ideas design team to select who would make it the cut to become an official LEGO Ideas set. And after several months, the team finally gave their verdict. LEGO Ideas Engagement Manager Hasan Jensen and LEGO Model Designer Ollie Gregory made the announcement. You can watch their video via the link above.

Red London Telephone Box

First, we have the iconic Red London Telephone Box by LEGO fan designer John Cramp (aka Bricked1980).

John, a native of Great Britain, profoundly appreciates the iconic Red London Telephone Box that has become a symbol of British culture and design.  Paying close attention to every little detail in his design, John beautifully replicates this original telephone box in LEGO form.

From the ornate crown decorations to the phone books tucked away inside, this LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review results trailblazer includes all the memorable features that have made the Red London Telephone Box famous.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Another upcoming LEGO Ideas set is a re-creation from the brilliant mind of Simon Scott (aka Tvrulesmylife). This Tim Burton-inspired set highlights the home of Jack Skellington in his titular role in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

nightmare before christmas

It’s not the first time Simon has impressed the LEGO Ideas fan community with his amazing representation of the beloved stop-motion animated musical. His latest creation has again reached 10,000 supporters, and it’s easy to see why.

The LEGO Ideas review team was amazed by the level of detail that Simon put into this scene, which is instantly recognizable to fans of the movie. Jack Skellington and Sally, the main characters, are beautifully depicted, capturing the essence of their personalities and relationships. There’s no doubt that this brick creation deserves to be on the list of LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review results champions.

There’s no word yet on when these LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review results will fully materialize as actual LEGO sets, and be finally available to the market. But given the myriad of approved LEGO Ideas projects still in development, we’ll most likely see them in 2024.

We’ll also keep our radars open for the results of the Third 2022 LEGO Ideas Review Stage with its 35 product ideas that gathered support between September 2022 and early January 2023. So be sure to stay tuned.

LEGO Ideas Update: First Thirteen Qualifiers for the First LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage

Now that the LEGO Ideas Third 2022 Review Stage has been wrapped up, we are now seeing the initial batch of product ideas that managed to gather that needed 10K support to be included in the First 2023 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. Here’s a look at some of the product ideas that may turn out to be the next official LEGO Ideas set.

Right off the bat, I have to say that I am personally cheering for Ashnflash’s Shrek’s Swamp – 20th Anniversary set and the Retro Comic Store by LEGOverwatch. Ashnflash LEGO Ideas concept was an overnight success considering that an official LEGO set inspired by Dreamwork’s iconic green ogre can potentially become a tie-in set to celebrate this 2oth anniversary milestone. The recent box office success of the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also catapulted this proposed set to 10K stardom.

Another product idea that I hope to see become a reality is the Retro Comic Store. It will be a great addition to any LEGO City MOC and other LEGO modular sets. It is also cool to see some vintage comic book titles rendered into printed LEGO titles, similar to our custom LEGO 2×2 printed tiles that we offer at our official storefront.

In any case, I hope for the success of all these product ideas as they enter this year’s LEGO Ideas First 2023 Review Stage. In no particular order, here are the initial batch of this year’s LEGO Ideas qualifiers. Click on their respective links below to learn more about these potential LEGO Ideas sets.

LEGO Ideas 2023 Sets To Watch Out For

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the next wave of LEGO Ideas 2023 sets. Though still in development at this time of posting, there’s already great anticipation for these sets.

2022 was a great year for LEGO Ideas, with a total of 9 LEGO fan-designed sets, 2 of which were approved to become gift-with-purchase sets in the likes of Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533) and Ray Castaway (40566). And for this year, the LEGO Ideas Design Team certainly has a lot on its plate as fans eagerly await their official rendition of this year’s LEGO Ideas 2023 sets.

For this year, we can expect the same number of official LEGO Ideas 2023 sets to be released similar to that of last year with 7 approved product ideas that eventually had the green light from designers. These LEGO Ideas 2023 sets are still in the works, and here’s a recap of this next wave of community-supported sets that we can’t wait to put our hands on this year.

In order of its review results, these approved sets are:

We can also expect a fan-designed, gift-with-purchase set in the form of a Tribute to Galileo Galilei to be available this year. If you recall, this original creation was the grand prize winner of the LEGO Ideas’ Ready, Set, Go, STEM Challenge in May last year. Created by fan designer Firecracker_, this GWP will most likely be offered towards the 2nd half of 2023.

The Tribute to Galileo Galilei is our next LEGO Ideas gift-with-purchase set. Fan model, not final product.

It is also worth noting that there are 3 more LEGO Ideas sets to watch out for, though they are more likely to be released by 2024. These upcoming sets are based on winning entries that came in on top of LEGO Ideas Challenges in collaboration with Target and Wizards of the Coast LLC. I’m including them here for our reference but they will most likely be available next year. However, bear in mind that nothing is set in stone as far as their release dates are concerned until such time that LEGO confirms their availability.

What LEGO Ideas 2023 set are you most excited about? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.

Third 2022 LEGO Ideas Review Stage Commences With 35 Product Ideas

Earlier last month, we revisited the LEGO Ideas platform as it nears the end of its most current project submission stage. And this time around the review team made its announcement, officially closing the submission stage and opening the way for its Third 2022 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

We featured 33 product ideas last month that managed to gather the needed 10,000 fan votes to take the step towards becoming an official LEGO Ideas set. And this time around, 3 additional projects were added to the roster giving us a total of 35 product ideas officially entering the said review stage.

Unfortunately, the Neverending Story (40th Anniversary) product idea was eventually removed from the list of qualifiers due to a copyright takedown request from the iconic film’s license holder. This gives us a total of 35 qualifiers instead of 36 making the final roster.

The product idea Neverending Story (40th Anniversary) was eventually removed from the list of qualifiers for the Third 2022 LEGO Ideas Review Stage due to a copyright takedown request. As of this posting, the link for its respective LEGO Ideas product idea page was eventually removed.

These 3 additional product ideas include:

WILLOW – BATTLE OF TIR ASLEEN

DOGS’ FUN PARK – PLAYABLE DOG RUN

The Second 2022 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is also about to wrap up, with an outstanding total of 51 product ideas anxiously waiting for the seal of approval of the LEGO Ideas Review Team. The announcement of the approved sets is expected to happen anytime soon this month or within this quarter, so will keep a close eye on this one.

Update: LEGO Ideas Third Review Stage 2022 is Almost Near

It has been a while since we covered the LEGO Ideas scene, and in case you missed it, the LEGO Ideas Third Review Stage 2022 is about to commence with currently 33 product ideas on the table and still counting.

As a fan of LEGO Ideas and MOCs in general, I’m always in support of LEGO Ideas fan submissions, with more than a couple of project proposals that I sincerely cheered on, and eventually rose to the top as official LEGO sets (Voltron, 123 Sesame Street, and Cosmic Card Adventures just to name a few).

And though we’re still looking forward to seeing on shelves 7 more product ideas that managed to get the nod of the LEGO Ideas Review Team (The Orient Express, Tales of the Space Age, Polaroid Onestep SX-70, LEGO Insects, A-Frame Cabin, Hocus Pocus, and BTS Dynamite), there’s still a lot to look forward to with our next wave of entries for the LEGO Ideas Third Review Stage 2022. These are the entries that managed to get the support of more than 10,000 LEGO fans who wished to see them become official LEGO sets in the future.

In no particular order, here are the qualifiers that will enter the said review period. You may click on their respective links to know more about these original LEGO fan creations. And like other entries, there’s a lot of potential in this set of qualifiers. From pop culture icons to memorable, picturesque locations, there’s something for every LEGO fan

Since we have a couple of weeks or more before we formally enter the  LEGO Ideas Third Review Stage for 2022, we can expect for more product ideas to make it before the deadline. Head over to the LEGO Ideas website if you wish to support any of the original fan submissions posted there.

LEGO Ideas 10K Support: “Thomas the Tank Engine” by KaijuBuildz

LEGO and trains are as unbeatable as combinations come. For years and even decades LEGO has given model railroad enthusiasts plenty of brick-built locomotive goodness. Add Power Function options and the experience can get just as good as “traditional” model railroads. Themes like LEGO City have given collectors some pretty awesome train sets already. But there are more locomotive types and models out there. Some fans have gone on LEGO Ideas to propose these new builds. Already the current Second 2022 Review Stage has several product ideas in that vein. This new certified 10K-supported submission’s a bit different from them.

325bbda0 45f0 4966 87b2 ec03b08b59f5 resize 950x633 1

How so? It’s because this one’s alive, sort of. Ideas member KaijuBuildz gives us his super-accurate depiction of the world’s most famous tank engine with a face. Yep, Thomas from “Thomas and Friends” didn’t seem to have much problem earning its 10,000 supporters for review.

0e72d340 ef08 412a aecd e806ff586b87 resize 950x633 1

The dimensions of the plucky blue tank engine in LEGO-brick form are uncannily spot on. You’d think it was taken from the set of the original “model live-action” “Thomas and Friends” series.

5b4b16b8 1e60 4adb bf13 9675e7355241 resize 950x633 1

He’s also minifigure-scale to fit a minifig of the Fat Controller, Sir Topham Hatt, in his cabin. Thomas comes with four facial-expression tiles and an alternative, realistic smokebox.

893e9da3 1086 4e85 b78e f4a9871f9c20 resize 950x633 1

Whether one’s a fan of the original “Railway Series” books by Rev. Awdry, or the various TV series adaptations since, they’ll surely love this submission. KaijuBuildz’ Thomas the Tank Engine comes with a display stand, though he can also go on standard LEGO rails. He’s just too small for Power Functions, but a mechanism will allow the wheels to turn freely. This is a standout product idea for LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review. As one who’s watched “Thomas”, this writer hopes the reviewers like it.

10-K Support: “Night at the Museum: Re-Open the Doors” Joins LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review

And from a confirmed upcoming official LEGO Ideas set, we go to a hopeful product idea ready for review. The Ideas platform’s long been an avenue for builders to propose new film-themed aspiring sets. Take this product idea courtesy of member CARLIERTI. It’s based on a modestly popular film franchise from then-20th Century Fox: “Night at the Museum” starring Ben Stiller. The premise of a watchman at the NY Museum of Natural History encountering museum exhibits coming alive during nighttime was a hit with general audiences, warranting a film trilogy. And just as the franchise is gearing for an animated revival, we get this submission.

bee8cb7e 87e6 4499 93bf 29b9bf65775f resize 950x633 1

CARLIERTI’s “Night at the Museum: Re-Open the Doors” is a product idea well-deserving of his 10K Club cred. Just one look at the images will tell anyone why this LEGO Ideas submission just got 10,000 supporters. It recreates in brick form the main entryway to the Museum of Natural History, initially compact but spreading open.

ea686439 38d0 48f4 a9a9 6cae0cf28f67 resize 950x633 1

The prominent exhibits are right where “Night” fans would remember them, from the globe to the T-Rex. Central to the setting, we have Larry the watchman, his boss McPhee the curator, and the humanoid mannequin displays. Teddy Roosevelt, Sacagawea, the Mummy of Pharaoh Ahkmenrah and many others populate this scene.

89dad490 52e9 4f6e 8c27 c463f6bc5b4c resize 950x633 1

There were enough “Night at the Museum” fans on LEGO Ideas to push this submission for the Second 2022 Review. Now it’s in the Review team’s court to see if it becomes an official set among the many already-existing contenders. Still, Disney+ is premiering the animated film “Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again” sometime this year. Maybe it’ll be enough to revitalize franchise awareness and make this set a worthwhile tie-in. We shall see.
